What is Backrooms Recovery?
A first-person escape and adventure browser game by Sleepless Games. While investigating a mystery in a park, you fall into the backrooms. To find a way out, you collect your scattered memories, search for clues, manage scarce resources and avoid entities.
Is Backrooms Recovery free?
Yes. You can play it for free in your browser on Poki, with no download needed.
What are the controls?
Move with WASD or the on-screen joystick, look with the mouse, and click or tap to interact. There is also a sprint and a couple of ability icons, but their exact keys are not confirmed.
How do you escape the backrooms?
Raise the MEMORY % counter in the top-right corner from 0 to 100% while avoiding the entities. At 100% the final sequence starts.
How do I get 100% memory?
Collect the small black eye puddles (drops) for small gains, and look at special objects until the Capturing bar fills for bigger jumps of roughly 8 to 15%. Polaroids on the walls are story only.
How many lives do you have?
Four, shown as floppy disks. Each catch by TV-Head costs one. Your memory % is kept after a death.
What is the TV head monster?
TV-Head is a tall brown humanoid with a CRT TV for a head showing a blue smiley. It chases you on sight. Break line of sight by going around corners.
What other entities are there?
Green and blue floating masks that lunge at you, and a harmless pink bunny that runs away down the halls.
What happens at the end? (spoiler)
At 100% memory you are sent to a long bright hallway that says Never look behind, the bunny plush turns into a toothy monster, and the game returns to the main menu. We have not confirmed whether other endings exist.
What game modes are there?
Free Roam, Normal and Hard are available. Nightmare and Liminal are shown as locked.
How do I unlock Nightmare mode?
Unknown. Nightmare (and Liminal) appear locked on the menu, and we have not confirmed what unlocks them.
Why am I stuck?
Usually you have missed memory sources. Revisit areas and look for drops and objects that start the Capturing bar.
Can I play it on mobile?
Yes. Poki lists desktop, phone and tablet as supported devices.
Is it scary?
It is a horror-themed game, built on atmosphere: yellow halls, flickering lights and things lurking in the shadows. It is better suited to players who enjoy tense exploration.
